AI at Cannes NEXT // Stage 5 Films Joins the Future of Filmmaking

Cannes NEXT push the boundaries of what is possible in filmmaking, driving the industry forward into an exciting new era of storytelling.

The Cannes Marché du Film, the business arm of the renowned Cannes Film Festival, is gearing up for another exciting edition of its Cannes NEXT program. This forward-thinking initiative serves as a platform to explore the latest trends, technologies, and business models that are revolutionizing the entertainment industry. As the world of filmmaking continues to evolve at a rapid pace.

One of the key themes emerging at this year’s Cannes NEXT is the growing importance of artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual production in the filmmaking process. As these technologies become more sophisticated and accessible, they are opening up new possibilities for storytelling and creative expression. From script development and pre-visualization to post-production and visual effects, AI and virtual production are transforming the way films are made, allowing filmmakers to push the boundaries of what is possible on screen.

Stage 5 Films, with offices in Cape Town, South Africa, Portugal, and Mauritius, have boldly embraced the use of AI tools to enhance our production workflows, doing our best to integrate the technology and stay ahead of the industry’s transition into the 21st century. We see this as a natural evolution of our commitment to delivering the highest quality content to our clients, building upon over a decade of hard work and mastery of traditional filmmaking fundamentals.

Our recent projects have proven internally, and will soon showcase, the potential of AI-driven, hybridised production, project development and virtual location techniques. Having been fortunate to collaborate with Filmscape, a pioneering virtual production studio in Cape Town, South Africa.

Filmscape’s state-of-the-art LED volume, the first of its kind on the African continent, has allowed us to create immersive, visually stunning environments that would otherwise be impossible or prohibitively expensive to achieve on location.

One of our recent projects were shot entirely on Filmscape’s virtual production stage. A commercial banking hosted round table demonstrates the versatility of virtual production in developing engaging and informative content for the corporate sector.

By leveraging the power of AI and collaborating with Filmscape’s cutting-edge virtual production facilities, we have been able to streamline numerous aspects of the filmmaking process, from script analysis and development to previsualization and performance capture. These tools allow us to make more informed creative decisions, further optimize our production techniques, and ultimately deliver even higher levels of efficiency, quality, and service to our clients.

Cannes NEXT provides a platform for companies like ours to showcase our innovative approaches, share our experiences, and learn from other leading professionals in the industry. Initiatives like Cannes NEXT play a crucial role in fostering innovation, creativity, and collaboration. By bringing together forward-thinking professionals and companies, the program helps to ensure that the art of storytelling remains relevant, engaging, and impactful in the digital age.

We are boldly embracing the use of AI tools to create a hybridized production approach and based on our successful collaboration with Filmscape, seemingly Stage 5 Films is at the vanguard of this exciting and fast moving technological revolution. It is definitely poised to make a significant creative and production impact and we are ready to grow and share that knowledge with our clients.

We are eager to see Cannes NEXT push the boundaries of what is possible in filmmaking, driving the industry forward into an exciting new era of storytelling.
